Chris Chanda

Aerial Director of Photography/Wescam Camera Operator

A freelance cameraman specializing in aerial cinematography with an extensive range of experience in Gyrostabilized camera mounts. Prior to going freelance, Chris was employed for ten years by Wescam, (now L3-Wescam Communications), a Burlington, Ontario based engineering firm specializing in the design and manufacture of stabilized camera systems. His first three years with the company was spent with the Sales and Demonstration team, followed by seven years of camera operation to such diverse customers as the US Navy, Johns Hopkins University, major US television networks, Olympic Broadcasting Organizations and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.  (See attached credit list for specific projects).  A strong background with Aerial Camera mounts has allowed Chris to work with a variety of equipment suppliers including Pictorvision, Gyron and Cineflex.  This diversity ensures that production has the right personnel and the right tool for the job.

“I truly enjoy the career that I am in and I am fortunate to have reached a point where my experience can provide producers with the assurance that their aerial requirements can realistically be met”.  In 2003 and again in 2012 he was the recipient of an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for “Outstanding Camera Work” for his part in filming the Ironman Triathlon World Championship.

Chris is a native of Southern Ontario.  He graduated from the University of Guelph in 1992.   Chris met his wife Patty while attending university and the two now share their lives with their sons Ethan & William, and daughters Ryan & Evelyn in Burlington.
